The setting: A lecture. One person is standing on stage. The props comprise a projector, a laptop, a desk and a chair. The person on stage, facing the audience, enjoys their full attention. The movements and speech of the person seem to be a unified whole. We are not, however, in the theater but in a classroom at school, and the person on stage is holding a 3-minute improvised speech on a picture or the contents of something while moving according to given stage directions. The person’s speech and movements are actually two separate entities, yet they are still unified as a coherent whole from the audience’s perspective.
